Indian economy grew by 7.4% in q2 of FY 2015-16: cso
Central Statistical Office announced that India’s Gross Domestic Product grew by 7.4 percent in the second quarter of 2015-16 financial year.Central Statistical Office is a part of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.India continues to be the fastest growing economy in the world in 2015 with growth rate of 7.4%.Recently India had overtaken China as the world’s fastest growing major economy.
First India International Science Festival begins at IIT-Delhi
The first India International Science Festival (IISF) has begun at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi campus. It has been organised by Union Ministry of Science and Technology. The IISF is expected to be the country’s biggest ever Technology and Industrial Expo. Around 4,000 delegates from India and abroad are expected to take part in the festival.
Britain launches air strikes against IS-controlled oil fields in Syria
Britain has launched airstrikes against Islamic State (IS)-controlled oil fields in Syria after parliamentarians in the House of Commons overwhelmingly voted for military action. In this regard, a motion for voting was forwarded in the House of Commons and it received 397 members votes including 66 opposition Labour member in favour of it. After the support of Parliament, British warplanes of Royal Air Force conducted six strikes against IS-controlled Omar oil fields in Syria from its base in Akrotiri, Cyprus.
Union Government releases postage stamp to mark centenary year of ZSI
Union Government has released a commemorative postage stamp to mark the Centenary year of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI). The postage stamp was released by Union Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in the presence of Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi.
Lok Sabha passes The Bureau of Indian Standards Bill, 2015
Lok Sabha has passed The Bureau of Indian Standards Bill, 2015 by a voice vote to establish Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The Bill replaces the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 and establishes BIS as a national standard body for development of standardization and assessment and quality assurance of goods, articles, services, processes and systems.
Saina Nehwal nominated for BWF Woman Player of the Year Award
Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has been nominated for the Woman Player of the Year Award of the Badminton World Federation after a consistent season which saw her occupy the world number one spot for a brief period.
Saina, currently ranked number two, will vie for the coveted honour along with world number one Carolina Marin of Spain, 2014 winner Zhao Yunlei of China and another Chinese Bao Yixin.
