          Senior-most Supreme Court judge Justice Tirath Singh Thakur was today sworn in as 43rd Chief Justice of India by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan. As a Supreme Court judge, he headed the bench which had delivered the verdict to reform cricket controlling body BCCI in the wake of allegations of betting and spot-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League.Justice Thakur also headed the bench which ordered probe into the multi-crore chit fund scam in eastern India, also known as Saradha scam.He has also heard the multi-crore rupee NRHM scam, in which ex-UP minister Babu Singh Kushwaha is also an accused, besides other politicians and bureaucrats. He was appointed as a permanent judge in September 1995 and transferred to the Delhi High Court in July 2004.Justice Thakur was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on April 9, 2008 and on August 11, 2008, he took over as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

          PM modi on Thursday flew to chennai to take stock of the flood situation. Afteran aerial survey, he met with Tamil Nadu C.M. J. Jayalalitha and announced RS. 1,000 crore for Tamil Nadu flood relief. He said this is inaddition to the RS. 940 crore which were released by the Centre earlier.

BSNL allows free calls, SMS for seven days

          BSNL has announced free calling and messaging services on account of the chennai flood to it’s customers. In official statements, BSNL announced that prepaid customers can make free voice calls and SMS from December 2 for the next seven days. They are also entitled to 100 MB of free Internet data.

          U.S. president Barack Obama who has held meetings with P.M Narendra Modi at several occasions,has found in him a politician who is honest and has a clear vision for India, the White House has said. On Monday Mr. Obama met Mr. Modi in pairs on the sidelines of the United Nation’s climate change summit. This was the sixth meeting between the two leaders since the met first at the White House last september.

Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and chief executive of Facebook, announced on Tuesday that he and his wife would give 99 percent of their Facebook shares “during our lives” — holdings currently worth more than $45 billion — to charitable purposes. Mr. Zuckerberg and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, said they were forming a new organization, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, to manage the money, through an unusual limited liability corporate structure. “Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities,” they wrote.
