                          CORRECTION OF SENTENCES-1
                   
 RULES OF NOUNS

Rule-1:
      Scenery, information, poetry, furniture, language, advice,business,audience,mischief,bread, news, innings,economics,physics and politics should be used in the singular from. Neither these should be preceded by an indefinite article nor pluralized.

Examples:
Incorrect: the audience are requested to be in its seats.
Correct:  the audience is requested to be in its seats.
Incorrect: the sceneries of kashmir are beautiful.
Correct:  the sceneries of kashmir is beautiful.


Rule-2:
        Cattle, poultry, people, gentry, peasantry, artillery, infantry, clergy, police, company, swine, alphabet and prey should be always used as plural. They are themselves plural and should not be made plural by adding ‘s’.

Examples:
            Incorrect : the cattle is grazing in the field.
            Correct    : the cattle are grazing in the field.
            Incorrect : the people of our village is rich.
            Correct   : the people of our village are rich.

Rule-3:     
Somenounslikescissors,spectacles,tongs,trousers,measles,remains,proceedings,tidings,odds,annals,assets,binoculars,etc. are aiways used in the plural and take a plural verb.

Examples:
                Incorrect: where is my spectacle?
               Correct :  where is my spectacles?
               Incorrect: riches has wings.
               Correct:    riches have wings.

 Rule-4 :
         Some nouns like deer,sheep,fish,yolk,brace(of birds),dozen,score,hundred,thousend,etc. have the singular and the plural alike.

Examples:
                Incorrect: the sheeps are grazing in the field.
                Correct :    the sheep are grazing in the field.

RULES OF AGREEMENT OF SUBJECT AND PREDICATE

Rule-5:
        The general rule is :
        The verb should agree with its subject in numberand person.

Examples:
                Incorrect: they is farmers.
                Correct:    they are farmers.
                Incorrect : I is a teacher.
                Correct    : I am a teacher.

Rule-6:
A verb should not be made agree with a noun near it instead of its proper subject.

Example:  
                Incorrect: the quality of mangoes are not good.
                Correct:    the quality of mangoes is not good.

Rule-7
When two or more singular subjects are joined by ‘and’, the verb should be in the plural.

Example:
                Incorrect: Gold and sliver is precious metals.
                Correct:    Gold and sliver are precious metals.

Rule-8:
When the singular subjects connected by ‘and’ suggest one idea and refer to the same person or thing,the verb should be in the singular.

Example:
                Incorrect: time and tide wait for no man.
                Correct:    time and tide waits for no man.
                Incorrect: Bread and butter are his only food.
                Correct:  Bread and butter is his only food.

Rule-9:
When words are joined to a singular subject by ‘as well as’ ‘besides’,’like’,’in addition to’,’with’,’togather with’,’and not’,etc., theverb should be in the singular.

Example:
                Incorrect: the Chief Minister, with his colleagues have offered to resign.
                Correct:    the Chief Minister, with his colleagues has offered to resign.

Rule-10
When two or more singular subjects are connected by ‘or’,’nor’, ‘either…or’, ‘neither….or’, the verb should be in the singular verb.

Example:
                Incorrect: Either ravi or raju have done this.
                Correct :   Either ravi or raju has done this.
